The Blu-Ray version of Season 1 and 2 of Star Trek The Next Generation, Sherlock BBC season 2 on Blu-Ray and Netflix, The Young Indiana Jones and why you should get your set NOW if you want one.

We go into the big shifts in the Science Fiction world recently, like Disney purchasing Lucasfilm (Star Wars, Indiana Jones). We take positive and negative sides of the issue and discuss good and bad points of one of the biggest franchises of all time being bought by the largest children entertainment company in history.

Spinward Fringe Broadcast 7: Framework Cover

This broadcast is all about Spinward Fringe Broadcast 7: Framework. Sylvie and I delve as deeply as we can into the book, discuss some controversial parts, and answer many, many questions directly from readers. There are also a few serious behind the scene moments, and tales of scenes that were cut entirely. The best thing about this episode? You guys. This e

pisode exists because there was a serious demand for it, and you gave us some fantastic questions. So many, in fact, that we'll do another Q&A about Broadcast 7 if we get a few more.

MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT! If you haven't read Spinward Fringe Broadcast 7: Framework, then you're going to want to skip this episode entirely. We take the gloves off and get right into the details.

Thank you for supporting this book, and for listening to Crewcast Radio. We're having so much fun, and there's so much more to come!

In this mini-episode, I talk about the hiatus we've taken, when we're coming back and what we'll be doing when we do. I also play some Bif Naked and almost get into a religious argument with myself about the Holidays.

Want to know what happened to us and the plan for the near future? Here it is!

Thank you for listening!

Stephanie, Sylvie and Randy talk about NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). We go into what it is, what it's like to write 50,000 words in a month, what it takes, and, since all three of us are veterans of the event, we impart some helpful advice.

For a basic tour of NaNoWrimo, the events, where to go to sign up, and a few interesting insights into a writer's brain, this is a great episode.

So far, Sylvie is behind in her word count, and Randy is joining the "Oh Shit Brigade" off with a bang by joining NaNoWriMo on the 15th of November, half way in to the event. That's a promise to writer 50,000 words in the second half of the month. We'll get an update on his progress next episode!

 Thank you for listening!

This is the good stuff! Things start off with a Broadcast 7 update Sylvie and I (Randolph Lalonde), talk about finishing Broadcast 7 and some of the notes that typically get passed between a writer and their editor near the end of a project.

We also discuss some of Jacob Valance's journey from Broadcast 1 to Broadcast 7 (without spoiling anything in Broadcast 7). We shed a little light on which characters are largely focused on in this book, and discuss some of the benefits of writing a series, as well as final polishing required to finish Broadcast 7 off.

We take a moment to answer the question; "Do I need to read the Expendable Few to know what's going on in Broadcast 7?" and we continue on to talk about the language and style in that book.

The topic of the discarded draft of Broadcast 7 comes up right before we talk about National Novel Writing Month a little. There are a few nuggets in here, and some insider peeks at what writing this book was like.

Thank you so much for listening, the new season of The Spinward Fringe Podcast will begin as soon as the release date for Broadcst 7 can be announced, so keep an eye on this feed!

We go around the table multiple times, throwing different horror movies at each other so they can be discussed, poked fun at and examined. A bunch of funny stories about our experiences with horror movies are shared, and we have a fast paced, enjoyable discussion.

If you're looking for a plethora of recommendations for horror movies, or just to hear about some of your favourite flicks, then this is the episode.

Some flicks we talk about: Final Destination, Halloween, Shaun of the Dead, Night Of The Living Dead (WATCH IT HERE FREE! LEGALLY!), Saw, The Human Centipede, and many, many others!

A good time was had by all, even if we were a little dizzy after going around the table so many times.

It's early yet, but we all wish you a safe and happy Halloween!

In this, the last solo episode of the first season of the Spinward Fringe Podcast, I take you through updates on Spinward Fringe Broadcast 7: Framework, the Spinward Fringe Role Playing Game, The Sons Of Brightwill, future Spinward Fringe Broadcasts, what I think about starting a completely different series of books in another genre, re-edits and so much more! I also talk about seeking an agent, and getting a TV show on the air.

Sylvie, Stephanie and Randy merrily bounce through our planned topics with a broken track counter that keeps telling Randy they're over an hour into recording. They start off talking about the shows they're NOT watching, asking questions like:

Are the Networks watching YOU?

How do you find your favourite shows without cable - LEGALLY?

Is Once Upon A Time better than LOST?

Is TV successfully making the transition to the INTERNET?

They eventually dig into the topic of comic book heroes on TV, in the movies and spend equal time on the ones that did well, and the ones that didn't. That leads to a review of the new Spider-Man movie, some nerd rage and coverage of many more flicks leading to to Iron Man, where many things changed.

With Stephanie nearly delerious from sleep deprivation but bolstered on tea, this gets interesting, even a little ranty!

Our theme tune this week is Pinball Spring, provided by Kevin MacLeod, of incompetech.com. We're thankful for his genius!

Spread the word if you like what you hear, geeks are much more fun when they share!

Sylvie and I dig into the nitty gritty of our work on The Expendable Few and Spinward Fringe Broadcast 7: Framework after I provide a fairly significant update on the progress. There's still no release date, but we're closer.

Next we get into questions from email and from the Facebook Page, where I answer questions about Alice, her role in Broadcast 7, and Sylvie answers questions about her own writing. There's new stuff you've never heard before in this episode, and the Spinward Fringe community played a big part in determining what content ended up in this broadcast.

This week we play Dragonfly by Universal Hall Pass, please check them out if you like what you hear.

In the second and final part of the Joss Whedon celebration we look at his more recent work, look at people who have worked with him and done extremely well since and finally, we get excited about what we can expect from our big damn hero.

Here's the list of topics: Firefly, the Whedon-less years on TV, Dollhouse, the writer's strike, Doctor Horrible's Sing Along Blog, Cabin in the Woods, Avengers, Much Ado About Nothing, Geek and Sundry, Once Upon A Time, and other critical geeky sub-topics.
We answer our very first listener question and it becomes the topic of our next episode: Comic books that have been adapted to the silver screen!

Our music is provided by Steve Everett, who can be found on www.SteveEverett.net. I play West Coast Time, and wonder why he's not massively famous.

Please leave comments and questions wherever you found this episode, or email us at thatgeekpodcast@gmail.com and we also have a voicemail at 509-203-4347 or Skype using the name: crewcastradio. I dare you to leave a message!

In this Broadcast, which is solo thanks to some really unfortunate scheduling issues, Randolph Lalonde starts with the Broadcast 7 update. In short, he’s still writing the book. There are a lot of general questions that have gone unanswered for a while, months, sometimes years, and he tries to tackle them by going through an average day in his life, and he talks about how his routine keeps him on track with writing.

A peek behind the curtain in self publishing is provided as he outlines the release process for Spinward Fringe Broadcast 7: Framework. If you want to know the steps involved in getting a book like this to market, and how long it typically takes, this is the place to get the goods.

The 1,000 member mark was reached on the Spinward Fringe Facebook Page, so he celebrates that by talking about the community and answering fresh questions. Other things mentioned in this podcast include the Spinward Fringe Goodreads Forums, Cthulu, breakfast meat, and generous novel samples.

Our music is provided by Again For The Win this week. We play Nights Like These, and you can find them on www.againforthewin.com

We celebrate Joss Whedon's career, starting with a recap of his early work as a writer, then going into Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly. It's time to delve into the whimsy and awesomeness of one of the greatest storytellers of our time, so dust off your crossbow and put on your brown coat!

Our music this week is provided by Bif Naked, we play I Love Myself Today, one of my personal favourites. Don't forget to look for her new single if you're a Bif fan.

P.S.

We're going to explore more of the Whedonverse next week, so don't worry, we'll get to the more recent shiny work in due time!

In this broadcast I tie things up by discussing my love of entertaining people. When you consider the fact that I have stage fright, I'm surprised that there's anything to talk about at all before I started publishing novels online. The other two episodes lead here, and I believe it's the best of the autobiographical episodes. Everything important ties in, and I offer a real update on Broadcast 7, finally talking about why it's taking so long for this book to be written. The end of the episode is dedicated to you, and I take a moment to answer a couple important questions. There's also a lot of music from some great bands, who you'll be able to find using the links below.

Again For The Win: Guns. You can find them at www.againforthewin.com

Parallel Lions: For You. You can find them at www.parallellions.com

While this may be the final episode of Where's My Flying Car? it's important to note that we're coming back as That Geek Podcast next week.

In this broadcast we continue with our gaming discussion and wander into dangerous territory: the movie that they inspire. That's right, we discuss game movies and that brings on a bout of nerd rage at one point as we try to find one we really like. It's an episode worth listening to!

Our tune this week is provided by the METTAphors. You can find out where and when their playing as well as discover more of their music by visiting www.themettaphors.com.

In this second part of the auto-biographical series, I discuss my biggest hero in life, and how wandering between jobs actually factored into the creation and appearance of Spinward Fringe. There's a little more humour in this episode thanks to misadventures with co-workers and there are more dreams at the end. There's also a lot more music! Here are the bands featured in this broadcast:

I play a tune from Monster Truck called Love Attack. You can find them on their website: www.ilovemonstertruck.com

Next in the hopper is In The Silence with Ever Closer. You can check them out here: www.inthesilence.net

Finally, playing us out is Cloudkicker with From the Balcony and The Focus back to back. Check them out on bandcamp: http://cloudkicker.bandcamp.com

If you ever doubted that women play video games, then this episode should provide all the evidence you need to dismiss your skepticism. I am fortunate to sit down with Sylvie and Stephanie, who regale me with tales of their youth with games and what they're playing now. That screen shot you're looking at is from Quest For Tires, a game that one of our ladies of gaming loved as a child. I have to admit, I spent a lot of time on a stone unicycle myself when I was knee high to a Mario Brother.

We talk fairly extensively about God of War 3, Guild Wars 2, the Assassin's Creed Series as well as the movie, MMO's, how women are portrayed in games, Diablo II and the upcoming update to Baldur's gate. We touch on a plethora of other games including World of Warcraft, Tera, Call of Ducy, Age of Conan, Diablo II and III, Dragon Age and Star Wars The Old Republic. The topic of bad video game movies comes up as well, but not for too long, since we mostly manage to stay on target! er, topic. I meant 'topic'.

The three of us also touch on what we're watching now, namingly Legend of the Seeker, Doctor Who, Weeds and Hell's Kitchen. I also spend a minute worshiping Kevin Nealon.

There's even more in this whopper of an episode, but I'll let you discover it for yourself. We were going to have a 'rename our podcast contest' but found a name right after we finished recording. In one more episode our name will officially change to "That Geek Podcast"

If you'd like to get in contact with the official Spinward Fringe Star Wars: The Old Republic Guild, you can find them by looking for Freeground Nation (Republic) or Regent Galactic (Empire) on the Canderous Ordo server.

This week we played 'Polly' covered artfully by Walk Off The Earth. Make sure you check their site for tour dates, and to find more music. You can find their tunes wherever great sounds are sold!

This week I'm doing my first solo episode. Instead of doing a standard radio-style show, I'm taking a running leap at a biographical style, so this episode is filled with stories of my early years and advice on writing that I know applies to every writer out there because I've never seen it proven wrong. This is all wrapped in a theme, and your challenge is to guess it before the 45 minute mark.

I hope you enjoy this experimental episode. I'm looking for feedback, so please leave your comments below or talk about this podcast wherever you normally discuss Spinward Fringe.

The music at the end of this episode is provided by WVM. I play the latest from the new album: The End Is Only The Beginning. The track is called For a Better Tomorrow (feat. Josh Freese). You can find his work anywhere great MP3's are sold including iTunes and Bandcamp.

Ray and I take a look at Spinward Fringe Broadcast 2, in what turns out to be a fairly thorough and flavorful read-along edition of the podcast. It's not your typical read-along, rather, we have a great time looking at the book from every angle but in no particular order.

Until I re-read Broadcast 2 the night before as a noval in its own right, I had forgotten how much fun I had writing it, and how I think it wraps up the set of Broadcast 1 and Broadcast 2 nicely.

So, sit back, put your feet and listen in as Ray and I enjoy this book aloud, examining our favourite bits, what happens in the book, what the chracters experience and where we end up on the last page.

We're thinking of Bif Naked as she struggles with health issues, wishing her all the best and hoping she makes a full recovery. This week we play Red Flag from her most recent album: The Promise. You can find her through Bifnaked.com or wherever great music is sold.

It's an epic end to an epic pilot episode. I thank Ray for joining me, and everyone else for listening to us! Please tell us what you think of our driving in the comments section!

It's the first half of an exploratory geek conversation, and we have a blast. The theme music is by the Omega Experiment. You can find them on iTunes or on their website.

Where's My Flying Car? Broadcast 1

We don't have a Spinward Fringe Podcast for you this week because I'm busy working on Broadcast 7 and we didn't have the questions to do another Q&A.

BUT!

We do have the premeire of the new podcast from the Crewcast Radio Network: Where's My Flying Car? Our podcast about all things Science Fiction, Futurist, and Entertainment.
This is the Doctor Who Special, where I'm joined by Sylvie and Stephanie, fellow Doctor Who fans who discuss our encounters with the Doctor and celebrate the premiere of the new season of Doctor Who, on September 1 in Canada, US and the UK. I hope you enjoy the show!

Bif Naked provides the outro song: Spaceman. You can find everything she's done wherever great music is sold, including iTunes. You can also find her by visiting her Facebook Page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Bif-Naked/52180916228).

The Spinward Fringe podcast will return next Saturday, and you'll find a brand new episode of Where's My Flying Car? on Wednesday, it's regular broadcast day.

Sylvie and Luke join me in studio to talk writing, podcasting and how awesome the Facebook Page crew are. We answer the questions: What advice do we have for self publishers? For new writers? As well as: Why podcast? What's with the music? and I talk about how big change can disrupt the creative process. Stephen King and Russel T Davies (of Dr Who and Coupling fame), come up, as well as Wattpad and what the future of the Crewcast Radio Network might look like now that we have 15 episodes under our belt.

We round out this epic, afternoon filling episode by thanking the Facebook Crew for helping out in times of need, and the tip jar for the talent that enters the bunker to help me with the show.

This double sized episode also contains twice the music!

The first song is by that fantastic, whimsical band: Pomplamoose, called Little Things. Check thm out if you like what you hear!

The second track is by Stereo Alchemy, a new act with huge talent. We play the title track from their new album, God of Love. Check them out if your ears are pleased!

I have the pleasure of sitting down with Sylvie and Luke for a fantastic Q&A using quesitons from the Facebook Page. We talk about where the material cut from my books goes, the Edxi Plushie and why it's a bad idea, evolution in interstellar settlements, what's next for Spinward Fringe merchandise, printed book availability and Luke talks about handling hecklers on stage as a stand up comic. I also provide an update on Broadcast 7 progress.

This fantastic episode is brought to a charming close thanks to Pomplamoose. We play a tune from the album: 3 New Songs! Woot! called If You Think You Need Some Lovi. Check them out on iTunes or www.pomplamoose.com

I'm joined in studio by Sylvie and Luke for a fun-filled question period. Topics include: What's inside a Spacerwares store? What job would we take if we were aboard the Triton? Why are British people interlopers in Spinward Fringe? Is Spinward Fringe staying PG? There's another question or two, and we give out PRIZES! Tune in to find out why we're giving swag away, how we're deciding who gets it, and if you're getting any! You too could be a winner!

Special notes: There was a heavy vacuum noise throughout the episode thanks to a duct cleaning truck across the street, but after some serious work much of the annoying noise should be gone. I also messed up the name of our song this week, see below for the correct one.

With the help of our first special guest, Luke Alberton, we discuss gay characters in the Spinward Fringe universe, the production he and I are cooperating on, Ray does a quickie review of Ghostrider 2, his ancient EReader, I referee a session of Ray's tips for the apocolypse, then we play some Vegan Black Metal Chef. We had a blast.

We pick up where we left off with Broadcast 3. It all starts with my sordid past in Fantasy, when the names and places I made up back then were barely pronounceable by human beings. Real life relationships come up next, quickly followed by a conversation about fictional prison and a conversation about Agameg. Music? Walk Off The Earth! Find them at www.walkofftheearth.com

The Bunker is graced with the presence of Sylvie, otherwise known as The Minion from the Facebook page. Ray won't be recording new episodes for a few weeks, but he's left us with several more that will appear later. This time we answer qustions about wormholes, time dialation, the locaiton of the Bunker (our studio), why Sylvie is late to the podcast, I ask for help from Neil deGrasse Tyson, and I pronounce all the difficult names in the Spinward Fringe series.

Warning: The sound may be a little loud on this one, we're working with a new mixing board.

Thank you for listening!

The intention to move on to a discussion about Spinward Fringe Broadcast 1: Resurrection gets foiled by a number of excellent queries about Broadcast 0 and what may have come before.

After mentioning how fortunate Randolph is to have an active Facebook Page, this episode opens with a conversation about prequel novels / trilogies and other backstory matter. Other segments include Ray's quick comparison between True Blood and the novels the show was based on, as well as a Broadcast 7 update!

We continue answering questions from the Facebook page about Spinward Fringe Broadcast 0: Origins. My allergies continue to worsen as you can tell by the occasional sniffle, but we soldier on.

There are a few good questions on offer this episode ranging from "Where do you get your ideas for names?" To "Are you ever inspired by something you see on the Facebook Page?"

Ray also discusses his own childhood trauma, we review The Avengers at great length, talk about Spinward Fringe costuming (as well as the struggle of actors to fit into costume from day to day), and the hopeful future for Joss Whedon.

Ray reviews Wurm Online off the cuff, I talk about the early beginnings of the Spinward Fringe RPG, we promise and end to our look at Broadcast 0 - but that's a lie, we continue in Broadcast 2.

Other words and phrases that come up in this episode:

"Watch Mob" "Cattle prod" "Crafting" "Pull the Trigger" and "Distill"

Special thanks to Walk Off The Earth for the music in this episode! Way play out to the tune, From Me To You - a fantastic Beetles cover. You can find their upcoming tour dates, music and more at www.WalkOffTheEarth.com - WOTE.com leads somewhere else, so disregard that part of the Podcast.

The next Podcast will be released on Saturday, the regular day for our weekly release.

Thank you for listening!
